Live Stingray Encounter
Thursday - Saturday, July 24-26 - Sponsored by Abel Insurance
Coos County Fair & Rodeo Entertainment
At this year's Coos County Fair there are other kinds of life to see besides cattle, horses, pigs, goats, sheep, rabbits, chickens and llamas. This year you can see, touch and feed sea creatures. Stingrays and horseshoe crabs can be viewed at the Live Stingray Encounter exhibit produced by Sea Life Encounters of America. This exhibit will be located in the Grove area, Thursday - Saturday, July 24-26.
This is the first time this exhibit has been seen on the West Coast. Live Stingray Encounter is the world's only traveling, self-contained stingray exhibit. See, touch, feed and learn about these wonderful creatures and enjoy the interactive crab display. Get a hands-on education.
Owner Steve Culver wants the public to know stingrays are very friendly, gentle, smart, and social and can be taught to eat out of your hand. There are 4-5 rays on display at one time. Their stingers have been removed. The home waters for these particular rays are on the Atlantic Ocean from Chesapeake Bay south to Florida. Stingrays live as long as 15 years.
Come experience this wonderful exhibit.

Western Express Railroad
Take the easy way getting around the fairgrounds. Join in on the old-fashioned fun on the Western Express Railroad. If you can't decide what to see next, hop on board and enjoy the fair scenery while you decide. This service is brought to fair goers courtesy of Coos Bay Toyota. Enjoy the ride!
Butler Amusements carnival rides
Butler Amusements always present an amazing mix of rides from those just for children to the spectacular rides that rise high above the fairgrounds. Look for the Super Shot Drop Tower and the Giant Wheel. The Giant wheel is a Ferris wheel ride that takes people up for a spectacular view 100 feet above the ground.
The new ride this year is the Viper. This colossal ride with a brilliant green snake theme takes riders on a whirlwind journey. The large arm crosses the entire top of the ride while it tilts and spins. At each end of the giant arm are two clusters holding two-part seating which spins independently as well. The open-air design allows riders to experience spectacular twirling views. The Viper seats 24 passengers and uses state-of-the-art shoulder bars.
Carnival wristbands are good for unlimited rides all day.
NPRA Rodeo Friday & Saturday Night
The Rodeo starts at 7 pm Friday July 25 & Saturday July 26 in the main arena.
Rodeo admission is free with fair admission; reserved box seats are available for $20 and may be purchased at the Fair Office. The rodeo is sponsored by Dodge.
Howell Rodeo will supply their prize winning stock. More than 3,000 people are expected to attend the two rodeo performances which will highlight a number of spectacular cowboys.
The very popular Mutton Bustin' will begin at 6:15 pm, this event is similar to bareback riding except the contestants have to be under 50 pounds. The animal is a sheep and the goal is to stay on the longest. All riders are required to wear helmets and must be pre-registered, space is limited.
Babies & Ladies in Waiting Birthing Center
The mission of the Birthing Center is to educate. As our society grows, fewer and fewer people have any contact with where our food actually comes from. We have created a pleasant, fun learning environment. Some of the animals that will have babies during the Fair are cow, llama, miniature horse, mice, hamster, goats, rats, rabbits, chickens, turkeys and ducks. There will also be videos, presentations and material for all interested parties. We know seeing all these babies will be difficult to not be able to touch so we will provide a petting zoo adjacent to the Birthing Center. Pictures of animals can be available from OSU Extension or on line. Karen Juerensted created this new exhibit.
North Bend Prospectors will have a hands-on mining display the entire week of fair. They will give advice and have a gold nugget raffle.
Master Gardeners will have demonstrations daily.
Apple Pie Contest
The best baker receives a new range in the apple pie contest. A self-cleaning range will be first prize in the 39th annual Coos County Fair apple pie contest. The range is courtesy of Schroeder & Sons Furniture and it can be yours if your pie is judged to be the best of all entries. Nonprofessional judges will assess all entries and the judge's decision will be final. Prior winners may not enter.
