Chainsaw Fest Information & Details

picture Welcome to the best carving competition in the West! This year's show promises to be the best yet as some of the best carvers from around the globe gather to compete for four days to see who will be this year's top artist!

We have adopted Oregon's sesquicentennial theme, "Oregon 150," as our theme for this year's competition in honor of Oregon's 150th induction into statehood! This will be an exciting theme that will allow the creativity of the carvers to take you in a number of directions. We can't wait to see what is inside those Spruce logs this year!

This remarkable carving competition will again feature the daily "quick carve" competitions that have become one of the crowd favorites! These 75-minute "mini-competitions" are fascinating to watch and a must see for spectators.

Reedsport has had a history of some outstanding chainsaw artists over the years and certainly Bob King fits into this category. Bob, and his wife, Cindy, both grew up in the Reedsport area and introduced the South Coast to the art of chainsaw carving when they brought this event to Reedsport ten years ago. Over its history, the Reedsport show has gained worldwide recognition for its annual competition. The Kings now live in Washington, and this year turned over the competition to the City's Chamber of Commerce.

As the Chamber representatives, we have worked for years with the Kings in planning and coordinating this fascinating event as a partner. We will miss the expertise and dedication the Kings brought to the show. We will dedicate ourselves to improving the show as it continues to grow. As Bob and Cindy will tell you, the show requires an extraordinary amount of planning and what we have learned from them over the years will be invaluable in our efforts. Thanks again, Bob and Cindy, for bringing this exciting world-class art event to Oregon's South Coast!

There are a number of key components that help make this show possible, none more important than the sponsors who make it possible to stage the event each year. We are happy to once again have ECHO-USA Incorporated and Golden Eagle Distributing as our corporate sponsors. Their commitment to this event could not be overstated and we thank you for this year's show.

Locally, this show would not be possible were it not for the generous efforts of Jeff Unger Logging, Umpqua Building & Hardware, Bob Sharp Logging, Koos Transportation, Menesha, and the City of Reedsport Public Works Maintenance Crew. These folks have always been more than generous with their time and resources to see that this competition happens and we can't thank them enough.

The Reedsport/Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce is proud to present this years 10th Annual Chainsaw Carving Competition. We hope you enjoy the show! Mark Bedard, Event Chair

A little about Reedsport/Winchester bay Oregon The Reedsport/Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with The Oregon Divisional Chainsaw Sculpture Championships, are proud to bring you the 9th annual chainsaw carving competition. This is the third year the Reedsport competition will serve as a qualifying site for the national competition known as the 'Echo Carving Cup'.
What goes on behind the scenes to make this event possible is truly extraordinary. This event has a lot of sponsors with which the event would simply not exist without. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to all of you who continue to help make this event take place.

When you talk about chainsaw carving in Reedsport one of the first names you will hear is Bob King, a homegrown talent. Bob, and his wife Cindy began this competition back in 2000. Largely because of them, this event has gotten better and better each year. On behalf of the whole community thank you Bob and Cindy. Thanks, for bringing this unique art form home to your hometown. Thanks too, for continuing to partner with our Chamber of Commerce in the common cause of improving the event.
Bob and Cindy will be the first to tell you that a lot of people are responsible for the success of the Reedsport Show. Our Corporate Sponsors are ECHO-USA Incorporated, Golden Eagle Distributing and Roseburg Forest Products. They are the backbone of this competition. Their commitment to this event could not be overstated and we thank you for this years show.

There is one person working under the radar all year long in coordinating the logistics of locating, securing and transporting the massive pieces of wood you will see the carvers sculpting. Thanks again to Jeff Unger of Unger Logging, who has always been more than generous with his time and resources to see that this competition happens.
Our Support Sponsors, Umpqua Building and Hardware, City of Reedsport and Darreld Murphy Logging dedicate a lot of their time and resources to see that the event runs smoothly during the four days of intense competition. We thank you for your continued support.

The chainsaw sculptors will be using cedar in the quick carve portions of this year's competition. Cedar is the best wood for the quick carves as it is soft and easier to get a lot done in the timed quick carves. The main event pieces will be carved out of Spruce. Thanks again to Unger Logging, Knutson Transportation, Darreld Murphy Logging and Roseburg Forest Products who were all a big help this year in getting wood from Roseburg to our competition site here in Reedsport.
A big thank you goes out to local merchants who continue to support this annual competition. Pepsi Cola Company, Lower Umpqua Hospital, The Mill Casino - Hotel, R & R King Logging, Oregon Tool and Supply, Bedrock's Pizzeria, Chowder House & Grill, Umpqua Industrial Supply and Carhartt, Umpqua Bank, Safeway, all play a role in helping this event to take place and we thank you all. I want to extend A special thank you to Leona Hausmann, who has been such a generous supporter of this event since its inception.

Again, Welcome to this year's event. We hope you enjoy the show. When you see any of the people I've mentioned that make this event possible please remember to thank them!
